Future Classic Cars - What's yours?
I would go with the Citroen XM. Although as they stopped making them about 15 years ago they are already hovering around the classic mark.

Probably the last of the big, pneumatic suspension Citroens which, if you've never experienced it, is quite amazing. Even now there's not many knocking about. If you ever get to drive one, take it, the experience is unique, especially on twisty country roads!

I have a 12 year old MX5 Sport, totally rust free and garaged.

Nowhere near classic yet but we live in hope.

I would say the original BMW 6 series, almost like a European muscle car and fantastically well made. Good shout on the Citroen.

They have been for a while. I sold mine in '97 for about £5k, would be worth about £15/20k now. Hindsight is a bitch!

My 1984 Mercedes SL 500 107 has increased a lot in the last couple of years and it also has *** 107 plate.
My sell it this year.

Re: Future Classic Cars - What's yours?
Pretty much anything which dwindles in numbers has potential to become a classic but its the cars which were desirable in the day which seem to gather interest and large sums of money. Old 80's Fords are already swapping hands for silly money.

The Ford Sierra changed the design of cars from box like designs to the 'jelly mould' aerodynamic shape and was hated by many when it was introduced. The Cosworth version was a real performance car and enthusiasts dream. Find a good one and stick it in your barn now.

Re: Future Classic Cars - What's yours?
The Quattro was a classic the minute it rolled off the production line, agreed.

The MX5 is a cracking car, the thing against it is there is so many of them and a lot of owners are enthusiasts who keep them well. Maybe the MG of the future.

I am seriously thinking of trying to pick up a decent XM this year. They are seriously dwindling in numbers because and they never sold that many in the UK anyway because of the colossal depreciation. My mates dad had a new one in the early 90's and I was fucking amazed by it, it's like nothing else out there.

Citroen had good form with the big hydropneumatic suspension cars.

I like the Peugeot 205 shout, agreed, great car.

Re: Future Classic Cars - What's yours?
Higher price bracket but the Porsche 993 and the Bentley Continental R.... you can get a low mileage 1993 Continetal R for about 30k. It cost nearly 200k new and was handbuilt in very small numbers (about 2000 over 8/9 years).... will be worth over 100k in ten years time IMO. Beautiful as well in a big brute kind of way.

Re: Future Classic Cars - What's yours?
Vauxhall Carlton? Lotus Carlton maybe....

Id go for a Jensen Interceptor, BMW 3.0 CSi, Alfa 2000GTV to show some appreciation, but as for moderns, its tricky. Good condition R107 Mercs and XJSs might well show small rises.

The boat has already sailed on so many 80s/90s cars including the 993 C2s, Ferrari 550 and even now the 456 showing upward movement even though 4 seater Ferraris never seem to do that well.

Any manual version of a sports car is more desirable I think, as people will crave the more hands on driving you get verses flappy paddle. Its no surprise the last fully manual Ferrari (550) has now seen gains of 40% in the last 18 months. Porsches are so mass produced now, that the brand is losing status, and owners look back to the thrills of the 993, 930 turbo etc so I see them holding value well.
